‘Not There Yet:' Lightfoot Refuses to Specify Date for Lifting Chicago's Mask Mandate

Even as Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker remains hopeful to lift the state’s mask mandate by the end of February, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has refused to name...

I really wanted her to succeed and I felt she was delt a tremendous curve ball with Covid. But she is a disaster, a criminally incompetent power freak with zero control of police actions, no clue on crime issues and an enemy of business interests. She is a fucking train wreck and needs to be shoved out the door and never allowed inpolotics again. She makes Rahm look downright competent and compassionate. Good lord, she is an embarrassment.

“During the last few weeks, cases have declined by at least 50% week-over-week, she stated. However, with an average number of 500 new COVID cases reported daily, Lightfoot said "it's not where we want to be."

Glad we mandated a vaccine that is extremely effective at reducing hospitalizations just to rely on cases as the metric to determine when we could relax the mask mandate. Makes a lot of sense!

For fucks sake why are we still using number of cases as a metric when at this point, a majority of the population is vaccinated and the current variant is the mildest yet.

Following the “science” only when it suits my argument. God politicians continually find a way to let everyone down.

I, for one, am shocked she is being an obstacle to a state-issued policy for completely unidentified but seemingly ego-driven reasons.

Why is she using the same metrics as BEFORE the vaccine this makes ZERO sense

If for any reason she does not lift Chicago's mandates at the end of the month when IL will be lifting theirs and when everyone is ready for it to be done, she'll go from merely unpopular to most hated mayor ever. There will no longer be talk of whether she can be re-elected, as nobody will be sponsoring her campaign at that point due to the futility of it. The business community will want her gone ASAP since this is for sure holding up Chicago's post-Covid recovery.

Every other major city in America is ready to make a stance, why is Lori like this?

She’s such a control freak and a coward.

She’ll micromanage the average citizen, but won’t do a damn thing against the police union.

Lori Lightfoot is the absolute worst. There is NO science backing up these decisions.

She shouldn’t receive a single vote when she’s up for re-election.

I’m so fucking sick of these mandates, we need to stop giving politicians so much power over our lives

At this point it’s almost like a power trip! Anybody who wanted to be vaccinated has had the opportunity for months.. Enough enough now, time to jump start life and Chicago again.

If March 1 rolls around and we still have the mask mandate I’m probably just going to become even more lax about it. In all honesty I’ve slowly started to see more than a select few just not wearing them here.

The only good thing Lightfoot has done has been uniting dems and republicans in their mutual hate for her

Reminder that complaining on Reddit isn't going to do anything. Contact your aldercreature and tell them you have had enough, and tell them that posting tweets in disagreement with Lori isn't what you consider adequate "representation".

Lori is like the principal in Breakfast Club that kept on adding weeks when Bender kept mouthing off.

“You don’t like wearing a mask and showing your vax card and ID to go inside…you just bought one more week….BUD!!!”

The good thing is she’s a spineless coward and she might put on a show for a week or so, then she’ll miraculously drop restrictions in time for St Patrick’s Day and take a victory lap and say this was all due to her benevolent leadership. Luckily all of Chicago except for the far lefties on the north side know she’s a POS and will see right through this.

If she keeps it up, just hop on Metra and come out to DuPage County. The mandate is already pretty much a suggestion outside of Chicago, Oak Park, and Evanston at this point anyway. The Elmhurst St Patrick’s Day Parade is March 5 and is the third largest in Illinois…always a good time!

Lori honey why are you like this, all the data is coming in saying masking never really affected case rates. It’s gonna spread regardless girl…. Get with it

You know, this whole pandemic I've heard conspiracy nutcases say "The masks are about control." I would normally dismiss them as crackpots.

I am starting to think, in Lori's case, they are right.

These 6 months of warmth coming up are key to Chicago’s post-Covid recovery, and we need the mask mandate gone before they start. As others have said if she extends this mask mandate beyond the Illinois deadline we will be the only city in the entire country with a mandate still….

When at the city level they say they're basing decisions off of "the science", they're referring to whatever the state does and extending it a few days

How about the vax card for dine-ins? Did I hear that they are getting rid of that?

Outside the city of chicago no one gives a shit about Covid. I road tripped to Kentucky and it’s like Covid never happened.

I work at a major hotel downtown. These mandates are hurting business. I see it first hand. That’s the only metric I see concrete.

Glad Lightfoot will extend my streak of never voting for the same person twice. At this rate we will just continue to bleed population to Florida (where I grew up, but I chose Chicago as my home; yes, I’m conflicted)

So, never-ending mask mandates and vax card mandates are more important than curbing out-of-control violent crime and repairing the city's damaged reputation? This mayor is a joke, control freak, and coward. Shame on her.

She could have you know, hyped up this transitional moment and had a celebration city wide. Anything to make us like her even a little yet she finds a way to continue to be a bi*** and show everyone it's her way or the highway.

I’m not wearing a mask after 2/28. The state has waited long enough and I’m done with LL trying to make this about her. It just doesn’t make sense anymore.

Lori Lightfoot’s entire tenure has been putting on a masterclass show of how to get everyone regardless of political affiliation to dislike you.

Of course. Anyone with ears could see she was being purposely vague after Pritzker gave a date. She was basically like "we might be able to do it too". She is so full of shit, and I think she honestly thinks she is doing a good job. The delusion is what is the most ridiculous.

Lori Lightfoots tenure is the best example of why runoff elections do not work. Any mayor of a city this size should be voted in with a majority the first go around.
