David and Goliath battle brewing over clouted company’s bid to set up a weed shop inside old Rainforest Cafe

“The neighborhood has just gone to pot,” said Robert Brown, who has questioned the legality of the proposal and has organized neighbors who feel another dispensary could tank property values and further drive up crime.

Idk, a dispensary & an on-premise consumption cafe would be pretty sweet. The Rainforest Cafe Cannabis Lounge sounds like a win

Terminal 1 at O'Hare has more of a neighborhood feel than Clark/Ohio

“The neighborhood has just gone to pot,” said Robert Brown, who has questioned the legality of the proposal and has organized neighbors who feel another dispensary could tank property values and further drive up crime.

I actually altered my evening dog walk to go past one BECAUSE of the security lol. Just a guaranteed hall monitor was nice.

“We’re going to have another pot dispensary,” Brown recalled the person saying, clearly referring to the growing number of marijuana shops in the area.

“Not if I have anything to say about it,” Brown vowed.

The companies have pushed back hard on some of Brown’s key claims, even objecting to the admittance of a lengthy PowerPoint presentation he plans to use during his testimony.

oh my god lol

the ultimate nextdoor man

I can't even imagine playing the neighborhood card in this section of the city. That entire strip in River North is like a twilight zone of weird shit. The monster McDonalds, Hooters, a Hard Rock cafe that somehow is so busy it keeps valet drivers running all day, ultra busy multi-lane LaSalle St, and then a ton of local foot traffic navigating that who completely ignore the area but need to pass it. There couldn't be less of a "neighborhood" feel to defend in the area. And for context I'm saying this as someone that used to live nearby.

I wonder if the weed shop gets to keep the rainforest animals.

If they bring the frog back and keep the theme that would be fine

Can't believe people are mad about a weed shop and not the fact that it will remain a shitty 1 story building. Please build another high density building and put a weed shop in the bottom. Then start removing every other awful place in this area.

We found a time traveler from the 50's who still thinks a dispensary will attract beatniks and ne'er-do-wells.

I am shocked at people quoted in all of these anti-dispensary articles. Who do they think is buying legal, highly taxed marijuana at tightly controlled stores with armed security? Its so crazy how people age out of reality.

This guys sounds like the ultimate narc… “Not if I have anything to do with it”??? Dispensaries and marijuana are here to stay. I’d rather see armed guards outside the doors of a dispensary than the junkies and food delivery drivers that just constantly sit outside of this building. How could this hurt the neighborhood? Revenue from this establishment would be more beneficial than an empty husk of a rainforest cafe just sitting there rotting downtown.

Lol. NIMBY. The area is already filled with shootings after people leave the nightclubs. A dispensary that closes at 10pm isn’t going to make this neighborhood worse. Want a safer neighborhood get rid of the of bars. We know there is a direct correlation between the bars and the shootings because all of the trouble starts in the bar and then spills out into the streets. “Spills out” may be a stretch but you get the point. The last thing a stoner wants to do is, anything that requires effort. Stoners don’t rob or shoot people. This guy should move to some nice little Christian community where the only thing they have to worry about is children shooting up the school and priests molesting children. Is any place really safe? Only places where there are 0 humans.

yes i'd much rather have a blighted abandoned jungle-themed restaurant in the neighborhood, that'll do it

“The neighborhood has just gone to pot,” he said.

hope they build the dispensary just for giving this insanely corny quote

Who gives a shit all IL dispensaries are scams. They charge 10 times the price you can get just over the boarder in Michigan.
