Chicago cops give cold shoulder to Mayor Lightfoot at hospital after two officers shot
The officers were waiting inside at the University of Chicago Medical Center when the mayor approached them and they turned their backs on her, sources said.
Honestly, CPD just wants no oversight. Lori has hardly been a truly anti-cop mayor. The CPD, for all we need it and for all we need good policing, is also its own kind of gang.
Okay no one really likes Lori.. but what did she have to do w the officers being shot/killed? She already refused to take away any of CPDs funds, so not entirely sure why cops are mad at her
Christ, Lori is pro-cop, always has been. She increased their 2021 budget and look where all the CARES Act money went! Fuck this worthless police department. Worth noting, three arrests have been made in the officer shooting case, far better than the typical CPD investigation of a shooting.
Chicago police are under a consent decree that mandates broad police reforms because the federal justice department found that excessive force was rampant, rarely challenged and chiefly aimed at African-Americans and Latinos.
That consent decree is by far mandating the most changes to the force, not Lightfoot or foxx.
Something I've noticed: the very same people who complain about crime being too high also want to give cops unwavering support. Logically speaking, it cannot be true that both crime is out of control and cops are doing a great job. Maybe, just maybe, if CPD was better at both their basic job and not abusing their power (not to mention not policing their own), none of us would be in this predicament. Lightfoot is not without her problems, but GTFOH if CPD hasn't been a shitshow since, well, always.
The CPD are being childish and throwing a tantrum because they think they are above any oversight whatsoever. I get that Lori can be a problem, but I'll take her over the utter dumpster fire that is CPD "leadership" any day of the week.
As a retrospective thought experiment, I'm curious what people here think about how "pro-police" the other realistic 2019 mayoral candidates would have turned out to be. Would Preckwinkle or Daley or Mendoza end up getting this same reaction?
Gotta be honest I’m not a huge fan of Lori but CPD officers r being babies bc they want someone in that job that will give them total immunity from bad behavior that’s been rampant in CPD for decades. @chicagosmayor needs to stay strong. Im sure many were pressured to participate
What is the clearance rate for murders in the city? ~20% maybe?
What is the clearance rate for cops murdered in the city? 100% probably
The animosity between the police and mayor, the schools and mayor, the aldermen and mayor, and down the line has 1 common denominator
I'd be a little more sympathetic to the CPD if their FOP president wasn't such a POS.
Lori Lightfoot: increases CPD's budget, fights tooth and nail against a civilian oversight board, gives them carte blanche to do whatever they want at any time Cops: ugh why does she hate us
Lori Lightfoot is the mastermind behind the shooting of those cops.
She sits at the top of the Chicago crime family that is incentivizing and advocating for violence -- the Democratic Party machine of Chicago.
Lori is pro-cop. Sick of these conservative brigaders flooding the sub like they're Chicago's saviours.
Perhaps it has to do with rules for thee but not for me.
Coming from Lori: “nows not the time for toxic rhetoric and divisiveness reporting”
She constantly says one thing, does another. Makes enemies everywhere.
We used to do shit like that when the principal spoke. Because we were children.
CPD officers have extremely extremely tuff job. Not everyone is capable to be a police officer.
Whose fault is that gangs are out of control? This did not happen overnight. Year after year situation gets worse and people in charge MUST stay on the top of the game.
Our next Mayor must #backblue. Our city will unravel if someone doesn't stand with police, soon.
“As the mayor stated . . . now is not the time for divisive and toxic rhetoric or reporting. This is a time for us to come together as a city. We have a common enemy and it is the conditions that breed the violence and the manifestations of violence, namely illegal guns, and gangs.”
That's royal coming from her office as she fights literally any reforms in CPS that would actually improve outcomes and reduce inequity in the system. And as her office has still failed to provide even a single grant to help remove lead pipes that the city forced people to use up until 1986.
Cops demand respect but show none. Authoritarian whining is so bitterly blind it would be pathetic if they weren't allowed to kill without consequences. Now watch hundreds turn up at the bond hearings in a totally unironic show of force.
The fact that a pro-police Mayor like @chicagosmayor gets the “cold shoulder” from @Chicago_Police demonstrates that #CPD is nothing more than a legal gang, band of thugs. Oh, also, that they are fragile men. (It is undoubtedly the men)
Cops hate her and Kim Foxx… I wonder if there’s anything they have in common
The Blue line... All the power and no accountability.
Time for a new class of peacekeepers.
These same officers have no problem with the police union boss stance on January 6🤷🏻♂️connect the dots.
WtF is wrong with them? She's given into them far more than most citizens think she should have.
Familiar feeling. If there's one thing CPD is good at it's turning their backs on anyone who would even hint at suggesting they should maybe think about considering improving one iota.
Anyway, hope the officer pulls through.
If Lori Lightfoot is being viewed as an anti-cop mayor by the rank and file, then I think the rank and file have a very different definition of "anti" than the rest of the city.
The mayor who in the midst of the bloodiest weekend in a decade held a special press conference where she showed images of police officers sleeping on couches and declared that they would all be brought to justice somehow lost the confidence of the rank and file?
As the CPD always talk about the us and them. How sad it is to hear how the CPD treatment of the Mayor is . Having a black leader is hard for a lot of the Officers at CPD as we have noticed the blacks are the only ones that get a vote of No Confidence. Just the Black Mayors. CPD
Oh poor cops “I’m mad cuz she doesn’t want us to be able to commit crimes and get away with it anymore”
The Mayor is getting a bad rap. She took office. The pandemic erupted all over the Nation. Police in EVERY state were put through the ringer as a result of multiple infractions against people of color including Chicago. Mayor Lightfoot put the man in charge of the police here in Chicago that she thought had the best reputation and action plan for our city. How is all of this falling on her shoulders? The areas where there is the most trouble, Englewood being one of the worst, should be addressed by a police board. Decisions need to be made by Chief David Brown on how and where to distribute his "manpower". I feel immensely for the family, coworkers, and friends of ALL of the officers here that have been shot and/or killed. But leave Mayor Lightfoot alone. She has her hands full with trying to decide on how to basically get the idiots who refuse to get vaccinated and/or wear masks to comply to keep the rest of us from getting sick and/or dying.
She gave a smart ass response to the father of the officer who is critically injured, at which point everyone turned their back on her. Get the story straight first
