This guys a joke.

This really highlights the us vs them mentality of the police.

When Officer French was killed, some CPD officers turned theirs backs on Lightfoot because they viewed her as having some responsibility for Officer French’s death. Apparently a vote of no confidence was even given to her.

Compare that to their response to Catanza not giving a single fuck about stopping the biggest killer of police officers at the moment. Are they turning their backs on him? Any votes of no confidence?

I’m no fan of Lightfoot but it’s pisses me off how hypocritical the situation is. If you are viewed as critical of the police (even if you barely are) then every one of their deaths is your fault. But if you are a cop apologist then nothing is your fault and you get rewarded for your “loyalty”.

In a social media post Tuesday, Catanzara urged his members to not comply with the vaccine mandate.

Are we going to ignore that COVID was the biggest cop killer last year?

CPD wants to know why people don't like them?

This guy is a big reason why.

Proving time and time again they don't actually care about cops safety. Covid is the number 1 killer of cops last year by a huge margin and probably gonna end up the same this year.

They wear bullet proof vests that are bulky and heavy to prevent gun shot wounds but a jab is too far. Just proves they want to cosplay as soldiers.

If you were ever wondering if the thin blue line thing was about protecting cops or a bunch of assholes jerking off to themselves in a mirror....

Police union outcry over city of Chicago vaccine mandate comes as former FOP pres. Dean Angelo dies of COVID

Sorry, is this supposed to be in r/TheOnion ?

Why don't they just quit and find somewhere to work where they don't have to have a vaccine? I'm sure they can pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

In case you're wondering, COVID is the number one killer of Cops in America right now.

JFC. The city already bent over backwards with the current "mandate" by allowing twice weekly testing at their own expense. And that's still not enough for this literal Nazi.

There are some really great quotes in this article:

"The FOP maintains the city should provide an allowance for a conscientious exemption" - so they want there to be a cutout in the rules for their conspiracy theories.

"It's safe to say the city of Chicago will have a police force at 50% or less for this weekend coming up" - if 50% of CPD is going to not show up/quit/throw another temper tantrum over this, good riddance.

Thankfully, the article starts by mentioning the former union president who just died from covid, and ends by mentioning that covid was the cause for 62% of dead cops last year.

I really just want to lift up what other commenters have said about them throwing a temper tantrum at Lightfoot and somehow blaming her for Ella French's death, something about turning the public against the cops or whatever; but we're looking at the #1 killer of cops right now, and they could prevent it with a simple vaccine, but they refuse to. They do not care about their own officers unless they can use them to score points in some bullshit political fight.

Covid was a bigger killer of police in 2020 than every other cause COMBINED.

Blue lives matter until they get in the way of fucked up rightwing bullshit. Then they're just as expendable as everyone else.

God forbid people in public safety care about actual public safety.

Want to come down on cop killers? COVID killed more police than any other cause in 2020.

I'm not sure why everyone is so angry about people exercising their legal rights. Yes, I support people being vaccinated and I see the value to vaccine mandates but I also see the other side. Lawsuits like this one help regulate government powers and solidify what is and isn't within their purview. As a society we should be open about discussing these topics.

Let's just let the firefighters be the cops now. Trust them more anyways.

The most egregious abandonment of their duty as public servants. 700k dead and they cry like a middle schooler ... "but I don't wanna, its not fair" Sure you don't have to get the vaccine, just gtfo.

When this mandate gets approved, many police officers will retire, quit, or get fired. This is an absolute win for the people of Chicago. Imagine being able to hire 2,000 new police officers over the next five years. The city could start fresh and hire people who have a mindset of helping people rather than what we have now.

The story says 50%, but I’ve heard it’s more than that. And yes, they were supposed to work 12hr shifts. There will be a lack of manpower in the 60%-70% range this weekend. Good for them for standing up to this.

In a social media post Tuesday, Catanzara urged his members to not comply with the vaccine mandate.

He’s not even recommending to his own officers to get it if you want. Basically saying don’t get it at all. So backwards and this guy needs to go

I'm usually not one to tell someone to follow in someone else's footsteps, but if he could do what the previous FOP president did this week, it would be great.

The president of the Chicago FOP is a disgraced fired cop. The fact that he still represents the FOP tells you all you need to know about Chicago cops.

This is just a promise to waste Union members money. They'll lose the court case and then get a covid shot as well as a lawyers bill.

I'd light my union rep up if I had this horseshit going on when I was in a union.

Hey, you in the blue: give me your arm. I SAID GIVE ME YOUR ARM.

STOP RESISTING! STOP RESISTING! [pulls out gun]

The police imagine this is how vaccine mandates work because that’s how they would do it.

Just get the shots. Oh my god. These people are the worst, when they aren't acting like cowboys, raiding the wrong house over drugs and making a woman standing around butt naked, they are putting bullets in preteen children.

They are being petulant and contrarian. So much of our ideology is individualism focused. All these ideological assumptions of our country are rested on the idea that we're all on a homestead on the range, settling on some frontier. That hasn't been true since the 19th century, if it ever was. And it certainly wasn't "free real estate" because of all the native Americans who already lived there who had to pay for our taking it from them with their blood.

You're not a cowboy, you don't live on the range. We are interdependent with each other. We live in a city. Things we do affect other people and things other people do affect us even if we are not party to any transaction with them. Even if you don't live in the city, if you live in the suburbs, even if you live out in the hinterlands. This focus on individual freedom without responsibility for the way your actions affect others is biting us in the butt as we deal with an unprecedented crisis that requires everyone's cooperation.

You should not have the right to refuse to participate in public health measures. These are petulant refuseniks. They've bought into that ideology I mentioned, they think they're cowboys on the frontier. They don't care if they get other people sick with their contrarianism and defiance. They assume that it only affects other people right up until they're in the ICU. They think they're tough up until they can't breathe. They think that since the crisis only affects people with underlying health conditions that they are going to be okay, they don't realize that they do in fact have underlying health conditions. And that perfectly healthy people have wound up with a tube down their throat.

Also Police unions shouldn't exist. Police are class traitors. Historically, it was the police breaking up unions. Police unions are breeding grounds for far right politics.

It’s funny that now they care about what CPD and CFD do. During the height of the pandemic, when officers and firefighters had to go to work every night and didn’t have the luxury to work from home- minimal cleaning supplies, minimal masks and hand sanitizers were provided. It was actually gross at how the city didn’t provide the bare minimum for them.. I’m not a back the blue the person. But I’m calling a spade a spade.
