If you were here for Northquake you know that price gouging was rampant so the state passed a law which will fine retailers who do this. It applies to Covid, too.

  • Sellers are prohibited from increasing the price of at-home test kids (sic) more than 10% of what the seller charged for the same product on Dec. 1, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom's executive order

  • The order also prohibits people who were not selling at-home tests on Dec. 1 from charging any consumer price that is more than 50% more than what the seller paid for the product

  • report the crime, which is punishable by up to $1,000 in fines and six months in prison.

  • People can report price gouging of COVID-19 test kits by going to lacityattorney.org/covid19 or calling 213-978-8070.

I didn't see it in the press release, but on the news a spokesperson said kits should be around $10-$20 for a package of two kits.

Yet another problem that wouldn’t even exist if our government was providing masks and accessible tests for its citizens… like other nations that aren’t nearly as wealthy as ours. But that would eat into their profits.

How do we report our government?
