L.A. to consider ending COVID vaccine proof requirement at bars, restaurants, gyms

The Los Angeles City Council will consider lifting the requirement for indoor businesses to verify customers’ COVID-19 vaccination status. City Council President Nury Martinez on Friday introduced a motion to make vaccine verification voluntary and no longer require proof of vaccination at large...

I haven’t been checked at all in the last week at multiple restaurants and my gym… I doubt most places are checking anymore

That's good news for restaurants/bars/gyms, etc. But I'm still going to be wearing my mask for sure. Vaccinated and all, I just don't trust everybody else. Sorry ya'll. :)

If anyone is curious about the current covid numbers in LA County, here's the dashboard with all of the info from the department of public health:

http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/coronavirus/locations.htm

For context, 1382 daily cases today is one of the lowest numbers since last June. I'll be watching this closely over the next week or two to see if the ending of the mask mandate causes any bump, but so far the trend remains down :)

I mean, at this point, people have so much COVID fatigue, no one is checking anything anymore.

Honest question, I just spent last week jn SoCal including SD and LA counties and it seemed to me like the vaccine requirement worked on the honor system. (This compared to NYC where a big part of my job is checking vaccines and matching IDs at the door) How would this be any different?

In theory I am not for this. But as the checks are so lax anyways, we might as well remove the inconvenience.

The fact that I can just show a screenshot and that there is actually no app to track is ridiculous. At this point all the unvaccinated have fakes, and have had for months.

Just in time for mid term election. Has science on Covid changed recently?

Eh, no point in checking. The resistance can come up with fake tags anyway. Drop all restrictions, if the idiots get sick and die , so be it

The vaccines dont stop the spread, so I never understood why vaccines mandates where implemented in the first place. I feel like it was just a way to force people to get the vaccine.

I wonder where I'm going that y'all are not because I've had my vax card checked at least 50 times over the past several months at various restaurants, venues, bars, etc.

There is so much misinformation being spread in this thread it almost feels like we're on Facebook.

This is so the Dem won't get torched during the Mayoral race. It's not based on the facts -- Covid's still here.

Flew to the bay this weekend and wasn't checked anywhere, including the airport.

Because science guys. It has nothing to do with abysmal polls and everything to do with following the science.

The only place I’ve ever been checked within the LA area was six flags last Halloween.

Wait, you’re telling me that there were vaccine proof requirements? Who knew. I haven’t been asked since last year.

I went to an eyeglasses store yesterday and they asked me if I was vaccinated. I’m vaccinated, but I left immediately. If a business wants to promote fear and hysteria I will do everything in my power to ensure they fail

I don't mind it at bars because it's difficult to not get super close to other people. I'm taking my ID out anyway so it's a simple extra step. The other places you're not going to be potentially shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers so doesn't feel as necessary.

Overall, I think showing proof of vax is fine and easy. I don't mind it staying and it does give me more peace of mind to know I won't be having to interact with the type of people who are vehemently against taking basic measures to care for another human being. I don't mind the crowd control aspect of it.

I've never been asked at my LA Fitness. Not even when I started going (a few weeks ago). They don't enforce masks beyond the front door anyway, most still wear them though.

Also literally never been asked at any restaurant or bar anywhere. I was in NYC a few times when I was there for a week, but not once in LA.

They should! I’m all about people getting vaccinated but at the end of the day, the science changed and we should recognize that. Vaccines didn’t stop the spread once omicron hit, they only stopped the severe cases so what’s the point of hurting businesses when the passport is ineffective in its main goal?

They never really checked. And the ones that do just glance over it. Its just annoying how some will say “if masks really worked, then we wouldn’t have had so many cases”. LoL it wasnt the masks not working, it was all the half assed efforts and lack of enforcement just like what we seen at the super bowl.
