Title is misleading. She's resigning from her post as the Council President but intends to stay on the council.

This is step one, she'll resign next. She has to. Listen to the audio, she sounds like a low class scumbag racist. The curtain has been pulled.

How does she not resign from office period? Her PR firm damage control statement is nice, but she still doesn't seem to truly understand the gravity of what she did.

Her apology was insulting. She continues to claim that representation of POC is a priority for her. Bitch, we caught you. Red fucking handed. You are a racist. This wasn't some joke made in poor taste, a clumsily worded statement open for misinterpretation, or an angry outburst in the heat of the moment. This is a racist, elitist and hateful heart.

Apologize by resigning your full position in shame and never running for office again. Or just join the other side where your ideals will be celebrated.

What she and her compatriots said is abhorrent, but I hope people don't miss the forest for the trees with these revelations. The animosity between the latino and black community is longstanding and totally counterproductive. There's a deep-seated ethnic tribalism that has plagued the LA political scene for far too long. I promise you that attitudes that this recording revealed are not unique to Nury Martinez. I've worked in organized labor for a long time here and the paranoia that underpins her remarks is pretty widely shared in both camps.

She said she did this "in a moment of intense frustration and anger." Based on the audio I'm guessing that's a regular occurrence for her. Imagine all the other things she's said in the past. Yikes.

Also, everyone, lets not forget about Kevin De Leon as well.

The only thing she is sorry for is that she got caught, and if was truly sorry she would resign from the Council as well, but she won't. She is a POS that would never occur to her that calling gay WM fellow CM a 'little bitch' or referring to his adopted black young son a 'little monkey' that needs a beat down. Again we are reminded that City Hall is corrupt AF and the LA Hispanics democrats are no less corrupt and power hungry then maga cult republicans when it comes to redistricting.

What she exhibited wasn't a one-off burst of fury and anger, it was a habit, a longstanding mindset of racial stereotypes, demeaning language and violent threats and imagery that no one has ever taken her to task for. How many other staffers have listened to her spout off like this and stood by not saying a thing? (Those stories, undoubtably will come out). I’ve seen some middle aged Latinos throwing the word chinito in front of people with East Asian phenotypes while talking to each other in Spanish in restaurants and other public places. One day I asked one of my Spanish speaking colleagues, and she said it means only Asian to certain groups of Spanish speakers. I asked again if they are aware that it means little Chinese, and she said yes and the users are aware that it can be used as a bad term but they don’t care much.

Not good enough. The agenda about replacing both Kevin and Nury should be discussed and to give out a public vote to remove them before their term ends.

This is not just her comments, this is her belief. The more clips I hear the more shocked I am especially how casual they are. Los Angeles has no home for racist, she needs to resign from city council period, absolute disgrace.

Let this be a lesson to all of us not to vote based on race, but on true leadership that will look out for all people of Los Angeles.

I was gonna give her the benefit of the doubt when referring to a rowdy toddler as a monkey, since that's what people do sometimes, but when she started calling people short, dark and ugly, it became pretty clear she's racist.

First will say, that just dissected this user's account. They have another text/​post on hiring and corruption with a string of LA leaders names. I am not sure if this is legitimate and could be heresay.

This audio clip however reveals a ton more. It first, is borderline illegal, you have a grant recipient talking about using a government grant to muscle out his "non-profit competition".

More so, it reveals an unyielding power dynamic and embedded structure among our politically elected leaders with organized labor in the city. In effect the labor leader is talking about how they run LA. It almost is mafia-ish and I am not sure the legal implications of the rest of this but no doubt is it appalling and can bet the FBI is listening. A lot of "pay for play" language alluded throughout this. That the goal is not to cede legislative power to the people we elect.

We should be skeptical of ANY large organization (right, left, business, non-business) that yields this much power outside of the confines of our public and elective process, especially in a city we should care about like ours.

This is not the way things should be. And is gravely unsettling. I hope for brighter days ahead for our city.
