The amount of homicides on Metro the last few years is unacceptable. RIP to this person, whoever they were.

at the Pershing Square subway station

I'm not sure any particular station would be a surprise for this, but this station may be the least surprising to have associated with a stabbing.

Worked pre-pandemic taking the metro every day to work. Never had any real terrible incidents, but I rode the Expo line which is the high class line lol.

I would take the red often pre-pandemic which was pretty sketch compared to the Expo.

Here's some tips I always abided by:

  1. NEVER stand next to the tracks waiting for the train. And if you need to crowd on to get on, face away from the tracks so you can be aware if someone tries to do shove you on the tracks.
  2. NEVER have your head buried in your phone, ESPECIALLY when boarding or getting off the train. I had two coworkers have their phones stolen when boarding/exiting the train. Someone grabbed their phone and took off, one of them when the train door was closing.
  3. If possible, sit in the car, closest to the conductor.
  4. If possible sit with your back facing one of the walls so you can see your entire surroundings.
  5. If you have a backpack/purse, reverse it around so it's on your chest and not on your back especially if it's a crowded train and you are standing up. Not on the Metro, but I almost got pickpocketed out of my backpack in Colombia on the train. Lesson learned.

I don't ride the train anymore since I work from home. The handful of times I rode it during the pandemic, it was sketcher than pre-pandemic.

It’s currently unclear if the attack was gang-motivated, or if the victim was homeless.

Why even mention this if there's no information?

Is it just me, or have things been getting extra stabby lately?

Okay so is this station a complete no go zone? I was planning to park at union and take the subway to Pershing to get into downtown around like 9-10 pm but idk anymore…

Pershing Square is a really rough area. I've seen all sorts of violence go down around there. So sad.

It's funny that cops disappear after 7pm from the metro. Most of the time they just hang at the end of the platform. They rarely ride the trains or walk through them.

Today I took the subway downtown for a show at the taper. However I ubered home because I refuse to take the subway after 8pm.

I'd bet a benji the victim was homeless.

So many well-to-do people (tons in this subreddit) act like they're the ones who are in danger on public transit from homeless people, when the truth is it's the other way around.

As pretty as they make them look. Metro in LA can be more than less pretty sketchy
