British actor Julian Sands goes missing while hiking in Mt. Baldy area

It snowed a bunch and then everyone went rushing out to some dangerous mountain. Feels like we’ve been hearing about Mt Baldy mishaps for the past two weeks.

I saw this and just went, "Fuck, not another one."

I know it's easy to get complacent with your local mountains. And the Baldy area isn't always spoken of as a dangerous climb -- 'everyone's hiked Baldy,' etc. etc. But goddamn just because it isn't Rainier doesn't mean it won't kill you in bad weather.

“Search and rescue teams have responded to 14 rescues on Mt. Baldy and the surrounding area in the past month, including two hikers who later died, officials said.”

Crazy. I’ve climbed Baldy multiple times. Loved it, but sooner or later they’re gonna close off access or implement some reservation system because too many people keep putting themselves in perilous situations.

I swear, Mt Baldy has become more dangerous than Everest now that it's snowy

No one has to call the police to find me on my couch
