Inside the financial ties between a controversial housing nonprofit and Kevin de León

As an incoming L.A. city council member in 2020, Kevin de León requested a meeting with city officials about their oversight of residential hotels owned by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. But he didn't tell the city the foundation was paying him, officials say.

But those in the meeting didn’t know that De León’s interest in the AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s efforts went beyond that of a future council member. In fact, he was a consultant working for the foundation, a job that would pay him more than $100,000 in the six months prior to his taking office.
TLDR: deLeon was on the payroll of a controversial non-profit that runs slums and was doing their bidding while a Councilmember.

The worst kind of politician. Says he cares for the poor and downtrodden but is completely fine to let them live in filth when the landlord stuffs his pockets with cash. ADIOS KDL!

I know Huizar was taking bribes and that he's going to prison, but de León is so much worse in my opinion.

Not much of a story. Meanwhile, the Times has yet to dig into what's really happening as Skid Row Housing Trust collapses and a punk rock scam artist sells stock tied to its name and rep. (link is to my own investigation) And Liam Dillon, one of the reporters who wrote this piece, has his own conflict of interest issues for accepting compensation from the real estate industry? God help Los Angeles.
