Police are warning the public of armed suspects targeting taco vendors in Los Angeles.

Over the past 10 days, four different taco vendor stands were robbed at gunpoint, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The vendors were located along the Florence Avenue corridor at Crenshaw Boulevard, Grammercy Place, and Normandie Avenue, said LAPD.

The robberies all took place between 12:40 a.m. to 2:40 a.m. as the vendors were closing up their stands for the night, authorities said.

The suspects would rob the victims at gunpoint before fleeing the area in a vehicle, police said.

Street vendors in Los Angeles are some of the most vulnerable people on the whole planet. Some are Indigenous people here as refugees. So they are doubly persecuted.

You gotta be a low down bottom fucking asshole to rob vendors.

They should do a sting operation and clean up the shitheads doing this.

Let’s stop pretending that these criminals are somehow victims of systemic racism or whatever which led them to these actions. These are scumbags who need to be locked away for a long time. They are a menace to society. It’s time to get tough on crime and start showing the criminals that there are serious consequences. As long as gascon is in office leaving the jail cell door open, criminals will feel emboldened to have free rein. You’re seeing this play out across the country.

Unfortunately, we've seen this so many times already.

In the mid nineties, there were three people who dressed up as cops and would rob vendors by threatening to cite, confiscate, or even deport them. They hit vendors from the valley all the way down to OC. It lasted a full summer. I don't think they were caught.

Of course, it's important to note that real cops were doing this already, threatening and robbing. And, still, vendors regularly pay "rent fees" to gangs in order to use the public streets.

Lots of extortion out there in the streets. But I'm happy to see that some of it is making the news. Maybe more can be done.

Was there a pause in people harassing and robbing street vendors or something? This shit happens a lot, it got a little press during the pandemic when people were bored and made it an issue on social media.

Latino and Asian elderly or vendors getting attacked is too common. The Asian victims only started getting some press because the news and social media activists were able to make a tenuous tie to Covid 19 prejudice narratives.
