NYC Mayor Adams vows to not be ‘heavy-handed’ on illicit weed sales: ‘Enjoy yourself, light up’
While New York legalized recreational weed use last year, the licensing system that’s supposed to regulate cannabis sales isn’t expected to kick off until late 2022 — and Adams said Friday afternoon that he doesn’t see a need for cracking down on anyone caught dealing marijuana out of stores or on...
This is the worst outcome. Either legalize or not. Don't give bad actors the ability to selectively enforce.
So basically the totally fair, never biased, police and judicial system will haphazardly decide who has to follow the law and who doesn’t but only retroactively.
Aaaaand somehow this subreddit is spinning this as a bad thing, for contradictory reasons.
I don't like weed myself, but from what I hear, the fact that it is now sold semi-legally has not reduced the number of buyers who get "burned." Adams needs to hire some weed inspectors who will actually take a toke and make sure the shit is legit.
This is a surprisingly sensible statement! The Mayor can’t legalize it or generate licenses, but announcing that he’s not going to arrest for it means people can work with some confidence
How is this not a good thing?
I've been arrested for cannabis in the past, and today I do not have to fear walking into my local smoke shop who proudly display their cannabis products like they've been legal forever.
I am no fan of city politics and generally think NYC has declined immensely over the last decade. But why try shoehorning this one good thing in with the rest of the bs they're feeding us.
That’s great but how about they fix how terrible people has gotten about smoking the stuff anywhere. At some points maybe the train isn’t the place to light up.
