NYC Mayor Eric Adams to bring back solo NYPD subway patrols

"We are determined to single patrol," Adams said Friday morning. "When we made every patrol a dual patrol, we cut our department basically in half," he added. The partnered patrols were initiated in 2014 to add a layer of safety for cops after NYPD...

Im fine with 2 cops working together. I really don't think solo patrols are smart with all the crime going on in the subway. I just don't want 6 cops standing together at the front of a subway entrance, thats all.

I already said this elsewhere but Adams sure loves to go back to his experience as a cop in the 80s but I’m very curious if he was actually good at his job. Has anyone ever checked his record before he got promoted? He acts like he was some kind of super cop but I’m beginning to suspect he was a do-nothing just waiting to get promoted. I wish someone in the media would do a FOIL request and see what his arrest history was like. I have a sneaking suspicion he was very hands off and barely active when he was on the street.

Solo patrols are worse for both the officers and the public. Not only does it put the officers at greater risk, but it also greatly lowers the bar for illegal action by the cops, since they don't have to count on their partner not to rat on them. The easiest way to decrease corruption and increase compliance in any large organization has always been to increase the number of people that have to be involved in order to pull anything off. Start leaving officers alone on patrol and we're going to see a lot more malfunctioning body cams.

And hell, even if you live in a fantasy land where every single officer does have good intentions all the time, if they're alone they're much more likley to panic and reach for their gun in situations they could probably have resolved non-lethally if they'd had another officer to help.

A lot of criminals are young physically capable men. A lot of cops are short or out of shape. Bad idea to leave them solo

I think this shows you just how desperate/short staffed NYPD must be these days

We just need to avoid a 3-cop+ group because after you hit the number 4 they start to form a little cop circle and chat about their families like it’s afternoon tea time

You could take a pro wrestler and put them in a uniform, and it would mean nothing if he has to separate two people fighting, request a supervisor, transport, and medical assistance, arrest the person responsible, and also take down required information in his book, and also watch his own back at the same time.

This is a stupid fucking idea. I am borderline ACAB, but this isn’t the fucking sticks, where a cop can ask for backup on his radio and half the sherrif’s office is going to be racing to him on empty roads. I’m a firm believer that cops, whether on street patrol, in the subway, or on a vehicle should have a partner. It safer for the cop and it’s safer for the public. Two people will have an easier time dealing with non compliant suspect than one, and less likely to have to pull out a gun to shoot them if they react violently.

This fucking joker is going to get people killed.
