Mayor Adams announces $5.5M investment for Universal Hip Hop Museum in Bronx
NYC officials announced on Wednesday a $5.5 million investment for the Universal Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx.
Can we get a $5.5m investment in our school system Mr.Mayor…
Nyc doesn’t need more flashy shit. We need a fucking mayor wtf.
This is fine if it's private funding but it seems that tax payers are footing the bill.
Where the hell is Jay-Z, 50 Cent, or Kanye??? They love to brag about how much money they have. Why not help fund a cultural initiative like this??
Investment? Is the city going to be getting dividends and eventually recoup its investment plus profits?
Or, is this not an investment and actually just a grant? Is the city just giving money to a museum while other things that are actually the function of city government go underfunded?
???? i'm confused as to why everyones pissy, yeah i dont fw adams but this museum is historic and most definitely one of its kind, i'd hope he puts money into it. i worked for NYC Dept of Cultural Affairs and trust me when i say that arts/culture education get scraps when it comes to funding lmao
The kids in that neighborhood and all of the neighborhoods would do better with more school funding.
He is killing special needs programs in the public schools but this gets funded?
This is sad, bc the project is awesome. Hiphop is literally the most influential music genre in the world, and it's ALL AMERICAN, and it's heart is NYC. As a new yorker I think a huge cultural and historical, and artistic homage is long overdue...Yes let's make a museum!
Sadly it's being linked to one of the dumbest, weirdo mayors nyc has ever had...
And for everyone crying over the money, it's 5 mill. Defund the f-ing police. They use 5 mill every second arresting mango sellers.
This museum should play NWA’s “F*ck tha police” on a loop in the lobby.
Eric Adams is one extra dude, but I’m happy for the new jobs and a Hip-Hop museum in the BX. Hip Hop’s birthplace gets to showcase one of its greatest claims to entertainment and cultural history.
people here have a terrible understanding of how funds work. More money does NOT equal better education or quality of life. This has been proven so many times in the past. You can’t just throw money at something and expect it magically fix itself.
$5.5M is also nothing compared to what other cultural institutions get in other boroughs
This sub be like:
"New luxury condos being built" - yay!
"Museum opening up in the Bronx" - oMfG wHaT a WaSte
I bet this is so mayor swaggy can install his own exhibition on his war against drill rap!
Before you read: The only reason people are mad about this in the comments is because it's a Hip Hop museum. Guarantee you could convince every person who commented on this that 5 million should be spent on something worse/stupider if you frame it right, guarantee it
This sub hates museums now? Or just museums honoring black people?
Yo Adams, I'm really happy for you, Imma let you finish but crime in subways is the worst of all time.
Please allocate the $5.5 million to better security in subways.
I actually really like this move. People are going to be going to this area and spending money, it’s an investment in the community.
“GET STUFF DONE”. Hilarious. He must have hired a PR firm - “Everyone is saying I haven’t done shit and that I just seek out photo ops. How can we fight that perception aside from, ya know, doing things that will help New Yorkers?”
“Make your slogan ‘GET STUFF DONE’. You know Bush’s ‘Mission Accomplished’? That was us”
It’s a cool idea, but I wanna see this money put towards something that will actually save lives. There’s so many homeless people, could we actually focus on helping them instead of kicking them off the subways and hoping they making it lmao
Well isn’t this gonna be money well spent i’m glad to see that the city is so flooded with funds that they could piss away 5.5 million on a museum for hip-hop how about asking the hip-hop artist that made money that brag that they’re from New York by Jay Z tribe called quest run DMC LL Cool J Jennifer from the Bronx Lopez.
