Wrong-way California driver released after allegedly plowing into 25 law-enforcement recruits

Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez, 22, is accused of plowing into law enforcement recruits in Whittier, leaving 25 injured. Officials say he is not eligible for bail.

They released him per 849(b)1 PC, it lets detectives gather more evidence before an arraignment. If he had stayed in custody he would have had to have been arraigned today. He’ll most likely be rearrested once they’ve finished collecting evidence. My money is on they’re waiting for toxicology to come back as well as the data logger from the vehicle.
