As far as minor gripes go: It's really dumb that the app for easily proving vaccination status (for non-NYers) is not called "Key to NYC Pass".

"Oh, I need the Key to NYC Pass?" - types that into an app store - doesn't find it.

Instead it's "NYC COVID Safe App". Why? Why not just use the actual name of the program?

Im vaccinated and my whole staff is and we mandate it for workers. Places have started enforcing it for a month now. Honestly our covid stats havent gone up since february and I just dont see why normalizing vaccine passports is healthy as a society given covid has fallen off a cliff here

Im not having a hard stance. It just has felt dystopian and scary as shit to be "show your vaccine card" to go get a drink after work. And personally ive found that masks and covid fear has maintained well beyond reason (for nyc) now, and people point to the rules about vaccines meaning we are failing. It just feels like we are really normalizing this and other temporary measures as unharmful things when really this just isnt the kind of future we should strive for

I just wish we implemented this as a response to any bump in deaths/hospitalizations. We havent had any since general vaccine rollout

I'm not a NYC resident, but visit frequently enough. Will my excelsior pass be fine, or do I have to sign up for this app too? Also, what about the older people without phones? Genuinely curious.

I had to show it to get into the Met ... then still had to mask and distance?

That seems like we're in a worse position than last year?

Got vaccinated at an MTA-run site and, while I’m able to use the nyc safe app, the excelsior pass app still tells me there’s no record of my vaccine. I stopped by the vaccination site with my card and asked them why my information wasn’t sent to the city database. Ended up waiting 20 mins while they talked to each other.

They said to submit a request online, I asked “okay, what website do I go to?”

Their response: “you can find it on Google”

I’m born and raised in nyc and have dealt with the MTA’s nonsense my entire life so keep that in mind before criticizing me for saying this:

Fuck the MTA. They bungle every single one of their responsibilities and there’s a toxic culture among their employees, not giving a fuck is encouraged and about half their workforce have fake jobs and do literally nothing 90% of the time.

And to anyone that wants to defend them: fuck you as well. Your expectations of city workers are so low that you’re actively making this city a worse place to live.

I don't see this working. I have friends who have gone to NYC for dinner and drinks multiple times and not a single place asked for vax cards or even pushed people, including staff, to wear a mask or socially distance themselves. Soon as enforcement comes to those not complying it will be met with major resistance.

So far in my experience, restaurants have been asking. Gyms, not at all, but it will be interesting to see what happens in gyms this week. After all, at least in the gyms I go to, this law will alienate many of the members, just as masks did (sadly).

I think this will only be in place for a few months.
