The main problem in jails is gangs. Until that is addressed there is no new facility that's going to fix anything in terms of inmate safety.

Staffing wouldn’t be such an issue if we’d stop sending people back for minor parole violations like missing a curfew or forgetting to call your probation officer. Don’t get me started on people sitting in there because they can’t afford bail.

The jail needs to be closed. They've tried how many times to improve that place? Enough already. Enough deaths, enough abuse. Transfer people upstate (there are prisons within an hour of nyc). I know it will mess up visitation but even visitors are being abused there. That facility is toxically dysfunctional.
