Which nonprofit will receive the sole source contact on this $4.7M? The $$$ will be squandered, and the people that need it the most will see pennies on the dollar. I can smell the corruption from the other side of the bay.

Do people know how much money this is? They about to steal this shit quick and the encampment is going to look exactly the same.

You have young able bodied people sitting there all day and they can’t even keep their surroundings clean and orderly? You should pay the homeless people to clean up the encampments and the neighborhoods. They can clean all the litter, debris, and graffiti. Give them purpose.

It's time for society to quit coddling those who don't want to even try in life. I've been homeless and I worked my way back up.

I've been homeless before and I cleaned up after myself. I ride Bart quite often and when you go by the West Oakland station, you can look down and see the garbage. These people can clean up that area themselves. Bring in some dumpsters and distribute cleaning equipment.

For the $4.7 million the City could employ 150 homeless people at $15 per hour to pick up litter, debris, and eradicate graffiti next to the camps and all over Oak. Think about how much cleaner and better maintained the city would be with 150 additional workers for a entire year.

You can clean it up for them, but remember that they CHOOSE to live like this and it will be filthy again in a month. Then what? Another $5 mill?

This squatting is illegal - they need to move back to wherever they came from or get a job & an actual shelter.

You “fix it” by cleaning it up and refusing to allow people to live here in these miserable conditions again. They are going to completely waste this money. Build some shelters. Don’t enable this misery and don’t siphon this money to the homeless non profit industry.

What a waste of more money. Send them back to city/state of origin.

Why’d it get this bad in the first place? The money will get wasted and it will return to looking like a 3rd world country. Drug addiction, mental health and crime have not been addressed properly. Caused by Democrat policies

If they would get rid of the homeless, that would improve conditions there immensely.

Please, someone: explain what is wrong here. What about this tweet is so objectionable, this app is making it ‘unavailable’ to view?? Politicians are being called out by name. Have they bribed someone??

Please, judge for yourself. https://t.co/yUYZyBreju

Seems like, at this point, a match and a bulldozer would be the most affordable option.
