Breed appointed the relatively moderate Dorsey to the board seat previously held by Matt Haney, who was elected to the state Assembly last month.

So Breed went with SFPD's spectacularly ineffective spokesman who openly admits he just relapsed on his drug habits and has never had a real job, rather than the favored local who owns a bar directly impacted by both the pandemic and all the other chaos in D6?

Dorsey, who has struggled for decades with addiction to alcohol and drugs, hopes to use that experience in his new position.

Peskin will be pleased.

Really? There was no one else that she could find to fill this position? I guess we're lucky she didn't pick the head of police union.

So disappointing.

Curious how people will react. Many have been pushing for a more tough on crime approach, although I'm sure the progressives will hate the police background.

This seat is up for election this fall right? Reminds me of Suzy Loftus vs Chesa. Does the early mayoral appointment help or hurt?

Breed appears to be banking on the electorate's mood shifting to favor a candidate with strong ties to the police, like Dorsey

Wow, that's a huge miscalculation, if true.

I'm far from anti-police, but SFPD hasn't done anything to endear themselves to the general public, and AFAIK are not even viewed as competently managed.
