‘Very clear’ Ontario is in 6th wave of COVID-19 pandemic driven by easing restrictions, science table head says

The head of Ontario's COVID-19 Science Advisory Table says that it is “very clear” that Ontario is now in the middle of a sixth wave of the pandemic driven by a relaxing of restrictions in the province.

So I tested positive a few days ago. I’m boosted. Mostly congestion, general ickyness and fatigue. Feels like a bad cold. It is absolutely spreading widely, just hope the severe case rate remains low, which it should given vaccines and general immunity.

Just anecdotal experience, but I have known more people sick with Covid in the last week or so than in the entire pandemic. So, yeah...

Yet another reason to ask what exactly would have been the big deal about keeping the mask mandate in place for another couple of months..
How does masking for 15 minutes in the grocery store prevent anyone from "getting on with their lives"?

My daughter brought it home from kindergarten this past thurs. Fever for 2 days then fine by sun. Me and my wife started feeling odd sunday night. Tested postive monday am. I had a fever for 3 days. Congested. Headache.sore throat. Wife coughing but no fever.body pains. Tues evening my son started with a fever. Today he has a fever of 104. No fun.
Adults were triple vaxxed. Everyones turn will come.

Covid will never be eradicated, new variants will always emerge. So, what I want to know is what are we supposed to do? Restrictions forever? Masks forever? When there’s a drop in cases and we loosen the reigns, we see a spike again.
I genuinely want to know what people suggest we do? We’re leading in full vaccinations.

Wow. Who would have ever guessed? Who could have possibly predicted this? For the 6th time.

Went to a funeral, got it. Turns out a family member had tested positive, came to the funeral, no mask, told nobody. Now my extended family, including three people over 70, have covid. One person's dumbass call may end up killing family members.
I also went to work completely asymptomatic, passed it along to four coworkers, who have passed it along to their families. One fuckboy ended up getting 40+ people sick. Asshole.

If all restrictions were in place they would find something else to blame. It’s time to stop. The virus is seasonal. Virus gonna virus.

Science table lol. Cp24 you're enabling a group of people that have been very wrong with their predictions for 2 + years. Stop.

Vaccines didn't work. Lockdowns didn't work. Masks didn't work. Learn to live

Healthcare dude here: I've had more staff off with Covid in the past 4 months than I did between May 30 2020 and December 1st 2021.
One of my colleagues (3x vaxxed, but wears a mask at work only to not get fired, vehement anti-masker outside of work) has caught Covid 3 times since December 1st.

Still havent got it! Not even Covid wants me 😂😂🥲

I mean, no shit?
The alternative was never easing restrictions though, so not sure what the issue is

A bump in cases is expected with ease of restrictions. And case numbers don't necessarily give a lot of info here. Are the cases mostly mild and how are our ICUs doing?
And speaking anecdotally, I feel most people are still masking. I live downtown and I don't feel like much as changed in regards to masking.

meh, i'm triple shot and i had it last week. despite being in the original "high risk" categorization when the vaccines first released i was sick for maybe 48 hours with a slight sore throat and some general achiness and i'm 100% better now after 3 or 4 days. i've had WAY worse flus and colds before.
i was the last of basically everyone i know to contract it and it was the same story for all of them too.
you pretty much have to accept you're going to get it at some point and if you're vaccinated then you'll be absolutely fine unless you're one foot in the grave already then you should probably take extra precautions.
the unvaccinated, no concern for what happens to them at this point, the rest of us are moving on.

I'm never going to wear a mask again. That is for sure.

“Oh, we’re in the middle of it,” Dr. Peter Juni told CP24 Tuesday night when asked whether he thinks the province is in the midst of a new wave. “When you look at our wastewater, it's very clear. You can call it whatever you want, you know; whether it’s a resurgence of the Omicron wave we had or a sixth wave, the point is really to understand this is not a BA.2 wave.”
He said the highly infectious Omicron subvariant cannot be blamed for Ontario’s rising case count and said it has much more to do with ‘throwing caution to the wind.’
“The point here really is it's entirely our responsibility what we're seeing and we just got a little bit too much ahead of ourselves and here we are,” Juni said. “And we just have our task at hand to keep the slope of the wave upwards relatively flat so that we are not challenged again in our hospitals.”
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Ontario have risen by more than 23 per cent compared to a week ago, with 790 patients currently in hospital.
Juni estimated, based on viral levels measured in wastewater, that Ontario is currently seeing somewhere between 30,000 and 35,000 new infections per day. The real number of cases is almost impossible to measure because testing in the province has been severely scaled back.

Tested positive on Monday and feel like a wreck. It comes in waves of cold symptoms, flu symptoms, and other symptoms like loss of taste/smell. I’m double-vaxxed and boosted and have worked to reduce the risk but I feel like we’ve been put under a false sense of security.
While I suspect my condition will ultimately be fine I do worry about those under five and those who are immunocompromised. And if you haven’t been vaccinated… well, that’s on you.

I tested positive on Friday and am not boosted but double vaxxed. Congestion, fatigue, muscle aches, dizziness, cough which led to a sore throat. Sucked. Feeling better now. I don't wish this on anyone, but it was like a flu on steroids.I still was wearing my mask, so am frustrated that I came this whole way and then got it. But I still think we need to stay opened up. Hoping everyone remains washing their hands, and just being smart about where they go and what they do.

No, what is driving this is They removed ALL restrictions and mandates in Ontario, on the first day back form March Break for ALL the children in Ontario. You could see this a mile away.

At this point, the phenomenon of covid waves means nothing to me. There is no point given for expressing my fatigue or to try and boast about immunity. How about a heat wave? That I could have a warm response to.

Most ppl are wearing masks. Enjoying vacation here in Florida. Nice to get a away from all of the fear mongering in Ontario. I'll have a few margaritas and say a prayer for those fearful of the 6th wave.

So I guess the other 5 waves were driven by hs sitting inside

Can’t wait for Juni to go to England already.
“As Dr. Moore has previously said, indicators are expected to rise as Ontarians increasingly interact with one another. However, thanks to our high vaccination rates and natural immunity, as well as the arrival of antivirals, Ontario has the tools necessary to manage the impact of the virus,” the ministry said in its statement. “The latest modelling shows that our hospitals and health system can manage any of the projected scenarios, while not compromising our ability to continue addressing the surgical backlog caused by the pandemic.”
Nothing to panic about. We are fine.

I'm still wearing a mask. Covid is not over. Unfortunately antimaskers put disabled people at risk. Fortunately, they also take themselves out of the gene pool.

Is it not weird that previously any changes in mandates would take two weeks to show any changes yet 5 days in and we were hearing about increases already and again today

Do people really think there wouldn’t be a wave right now if we kept restrictions? It’s like people think Ontario is the only place in the world experiencing this.

Whole family is down and out. No idea where it originated, we had dinner at my in-laws last weekend and EVERYONE boosted or not is sick. My 17 m/o has it the worst of everyone. Symptoms are wildly varied between us all but mostly bad colds and fever.

For the most part people are still wearing mask .. so much for the science table. Up tick is most likely due to the fluctuations in temperatures

So glad my (very very large) company is forcing us all back next week for absolutely no logical reason without any separation or masking requirements. Great timing.

This is what happens when 90% of the people destroy their natural immunity with an untested drug

Oh, CP24.. aren't there more news in the world to report?? Still dealing out covid fear mongering??!! 😂

Currently 6th waiving itself through my house.
Would any of the “but the death rate is so low” people like to volunteer to care for my sick 1 year old so the wife and I, who are also sick, can get some rest?

I am so scared!! Omg what should I do now?? Please tell me.😆😆

Me and wife double vaxxed. First time in 2 years we both caught covid 3 days ago. It's fucking horrible. She's in the hospital right now as a precaution because of tight chest.
My throat is the sorest it's ever been and I feel like shit.

“Juni estimated, based on viral levels measured in wastewater, that Ontario is currently seeing somewhere between 30,000 and 35,000 new infections per day.”
I’m sure these numbers are extremely accurate 🙄

So what? There's gonna be a million waves going forward because it's a kind of virus like the cold and flu (but more deadly ATM) that will exist and mutate for the rest of human history. It's naive to think otherwise with something so effortlessly transmissible.
The only thing you can do at this point is to vaccinate, quarantine the sick while they recover and have enough ICU capacity.
These doctors need to stop fuckin scaring people and playing games with society and build a proper post-pandemic healthcare system with the capacity for society and the economy to function properly.

Looks like the last wave did not confer herd immunity, as many claimed would be the case.

Juni is still there? Can he hurry up and leave already? Getting real sick of his moaning.

The science table has been wrong about everything since the outset. Report on the damage the science table and the rest of the Twitter and PH charlatans have caused with the horrible modelling and recommendations.

Don’t care anymore. Myself, my kids, my friends are psychologically exhausted. Come at me ‘rona… I’m ready. Doesn’t the lays 2 years training to wear a mask if I’m feeling ill, wash my hands and not lock door handles anymore. “At risk” folks have had time to train as well. As a society we have to remember to keep them and our new habits in mind.
It’s here to stay.

February 2020 I came back from Miami. Got sick. No idea at the time. What it was. I have been using 3 inhalers a day everyday ever since.
I also had it about 6 weeks ago. I have 2 vac and 2 booster. Because I am now high risk because of my lung problems.
It was fever and chills first night. (That made me test ) then a god awe full stuffy nose and fatigue for a couple weeks.

Ontario is in a 6th wave because we have a govt that cares more about polls and than people.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I’m kind of glad we’re getting this over with. I’m triple poked, and had it early on in the pandemic and again last month. I understand that peoples life’s are in danger, but I just don’t see a return to normal without people getting it. The vaccine clearly isn’t keeping people from getting sick, but is keeping people from dying. So hopefully we build a herd immunity and get back to normal as a quick as possible (hoping hospitals have enough capacity as well). Watching several people in my family’s mental health deplete to full on depression because of isolation is enough for me to be ready. Apologies in advance if this is offensive to some.

The restrictions were eased, and cases are rising?
In other news, water is wet.

Just tested positive last night.
I’m a 22 year old active male with no underlying health issues and it is hitting me hard today. Fever, muscle aches, congestion and heavy fatigue…
To all you anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers who participated in any sort of “freedom” rallies which added to the guise of public favour of taking away the mandates: F**k you

Imagine the world we would live in if people like that got to dictate public policy.

Did the liberal government make you write this tweet asking for Canada

Experts are just on government payroll being told to say what ever the fuck lmao

Lmao so how were people getting Covid when everything was locked down then ?

SO ACT RIGHT NOW PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS
OR HAVE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS
DEFY FORD AND MOORE

I handle the call off lines at my work. Sick calls started spiking a week ago

Figured this would happen. I got it a month ago from my kids whom were masked up and they surprisingly didn't give it to any of their cohorts - guess masks work mostly. (They probably got it at swimming - a risk we were willing to take).
Talked to a few friends at the time and they basically said they all had it too a week or so earlier.
Now that the masks are off my kids' class has had 3 positive cases in the last few days plus a teacher and one more in another kids' class.
But masks do nothing I'm sure.
Thankfully nobody's getting severe cases, but again everyone I know is vaxxed anyways and a lot of their kids are too.

Very clear : those who've taken the "experimental injections" and couldn't be bothered to do a shred of research have no immune system left. They're white blood cell count is hammered with every shot taken.

I had Covid in Mid Feb.
3 symptoms: a CRAZY migraine attack that lasted about 9 days straight (insomnia obviously came with it), severe sinus pain & chills.
But! No respiratory problems. I hope were at a silver lining here.

oh ya we’re in quite the fuckin wave but i’ll still take this over the endless lockdowns, hallelujah!!

Call it the “Ford Wave”. Give him all the credit.

Very clear that when i’m sick, i will just stay home and mask up in Public.. No need to close all the biz around me

Lol, of course they’re saying that. If you want more restrictions, you can lock yourself down.

I just tested positive two days ago. Double vaxxed, boosted and it still hit me like a tonne of bricks. Fever, sore throat, soreness all over . Do not recommend.

reminder to everyone that wearing a medical/cloth mask does not protect the wearer from viruses. However, it does somewhat protect others from the things you breathe out. So there is absolutely no reason to complain "why I got covid even though I was masked up the whole time".

Can’t wait for the waive of voters kicking these uncaring “leaders” out of Queens Park on June 2nd. Counting down the days.
If you are the parent of kids that caught Covid in the past week after 2 years of doing the right thing for your community, don’t forget about this when you’re at the voting booth.
Conservatives would rather convince you that masks in schools is a personal choice (when winter apparel is not, ironically), than to do what’s right to protect children.

I'm vaxed. I'm boosted. I still wear a mask.
If it wants to get me, go ahead and get me. Maybe it'll be a nice change of pace...

@celliottability u both own this wave .. your incompetence is remarkable 👏 what are u going to do about it #CovidIsntOver

The more "vaccines" the more cases is the only pattern I see.

We are "Post-covid" with plan for future preparedness is campaign rhetoric. @fordnation is BULLDOZING Ontario into spring covid fest creating more anxiety fear confusion ILLNESS & deaths. We need an EDUCATED premiere & qualified ministers (not PR & TV certified) for ALL ppl.

Really? So what fuelled the waves when things were closed, vax mandates were in place and masks were mandatory? This shit doesn’t work. It’s a damn cold. Enough already. So many brain damaged ppl want to control other ppl. FU! 🖕

Y’all are so shameless it’s crazy lmao
Enough is enough

Exactly. I mean the restrictions were so effective in the first 5 waves right?

Most of my friends have caught it in the last two weeks. I think it’s safe to say the province fucked up.

Yeah no shit. Just finished my 5th day of quarantine. Triple vaxxed, so the symptoms were super mild. I ate in two crowded restaurants last week.. risky business I guess.

Anecdotally, my son brought it home from daycare along with a nasty GI bug in the first week of the daycare opening up to parents. My wife and I both got it -- we're boosted. Like others, we have a runny nose and fatigue. I know a few others who were not boosted who got it -- they're not faring as well.

My entire family caught it. Some fully vaxxed, some not at all. Everyone got the same symptoms and everyone recovered exactly the same.
General symptoms: a bad cold. Fatigue, runny nose, and a sore throat.

The Science Table has predicted everything wrong the entire pandemic, no sense quoting them for anything anymore!

I'm currently sick/recovering. Boosted. Tested using at-home kit. Self isolating at home. Am I under obligation to report anywhere? Mist people I know who are sick also tested at home and didn't go to hospital.

Got it from the office. Tested positive on Saturday, Mar 26. Boosted. Had a low fever + cough + headach for two days. Almost recovered by Wednesday.
Surprisingly, I had a lot of yellow mucus. Some shortness of breath when climbing stairs.

"Science"
Absolute bullshit. We were told before these restrictions were lifted that there was a new variant and that there would be a smaller wave coming ages ago.
We can all look at the data and see where the percent positive stopped dropping and started climbing and see that it was before restrictions were lifted

Triple vaxxed, got my booster in December (moderna, moderna, pfizer). 25 year old healthy male, had a sore throat start up last week Monday, positive on rapid test that day. Tuesday had fever/body ache/sore throat/exhaustion but relatively mild, all symptoms went away the next day except the sore throat which kept getting worse until Saturday peak. Noticing some brain fog now that my symptoms are gone, mixing up words mid sentence, or just stuck searching for words way more frequently, more forgetful and slow at work, etc. Very strange illness, fortunately my experience was pretty mild all things considered.

“...However, thanks to our high vaccination rates and natural immunity, ...".
ಠ_ಠ

Anyone here who got COVID during the holiday wave get it again recently? I had post COVID effects on my health I really don’t want to catch it again

The restrictions were lifted just over a week ago so the numbers for positive cases last week would’ve been from people exposed to the virus prior to the lifting of said restrictions. I’m not a science denier but the general public isn’t buying it anymore

So we couldn’t avoid five other waves despite restrictions, but this one would be magically different?

Hey, Doug Ford critics! Our Premier is well aware of the 6th pandemic wave and is thinking about it right now! https://t.co/0XRfeRZcrM

OMG. Give it up already. Amazing when I watch British and American newscasts, they barely even mention Covid anymore. Meanwhile, CP24 and other Ontario "News" is still obsessed with it. Move on.

Wasnt it the same science followers who lead our province that said it would be alright to lift mandates??

Aren’t the top symptoms runny nose, sore throat and headache? Please stop. It’s almost like you’re sponsored by drug companies…🤔

By mid-May, cold & flu season will be over, no matter how much pearl clutching does or does not happen between now and then

Somebody explain seasonality to these idiots.
Or dont. Who cares.
