Father of kids killed by drunk driver Marco Muzzo was Tasered and arrested hours before his death by suicide

In court and to the media, Edward Lake had spoken at length about the pain of losing his children seven years ago. “We close our eyes and they’re all we see,” he said in 2015. “This is a nightmare that will never go away.”

Remember when the car dogshit muzzo killed those 3 babies with was "secure" at Toronto police impound for investigation and somehow burst into flames? That'd be a good headline.

This looks a lot like the kind of article that Navigator put out about Darcy Allan Sheppard in an ultimately successful attempt at skewing public sentiment in favour of their client Michael Bryant. Who does Marco Muzzo’s PR?

I mean the article should have never been published, but what does it change? If some piece of shit killed my kids in a drunk driving accident, I'd be a disaster, and probably would never recover. If that piece of shit didn't even face any meaningful consequences for his actions, I'd be even more of a disaster. Nobody could ever have the expectation for someone in that state to be stable ever again in their life, nor should they. The drunk driver in that kind of situation is 100% responsible for the mental and emotional state of the parents of his victims, and 100% responsible if they commit suicide.

Yet another life taken by a reckless drunk driver, on top of all of the other lives already taken. Too bad that piece of shit Marco Muzzo has no fucking shame and doesn’t care.

And this article should have never been published.

I've read the article. I don't think it adds anything helpful so I wont post an excerpt - except for this.

If you are thinking of suicide or know someone who is, there is help. Resources are available online at crisisservicescanada.ca or you can connect to the national suicide prevention helpline at 1-833-456-4566, or the Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868.

I think there needs to be some kind of scholarship, award, grant etc. set up in the names of Daniel, Harry, Milly and Gary Neville. Call it the Neville-Lake Award, Grant etc.

And at every annual presentation, it would say that this prize is given as a tribute and in memory of the three children and grandfather who were killed by drunk driver Marco Muzzo.

Yes, put his name in the document presented and make sure the phrase "killed by drunk driver" always precedes his name. Maybe make the presentations in front of every building that the Muzzo family is a part of. Start with that Vaughan hospital.

Or how about a marathon? The Neville-Lake Marathon with proceeds to go to the families of the victims of drunk drivers.

That way, when reporters report on the presentation, or anyone checks out the history of the prize, Muzzo's name will always label him as a drunk driver who killed 3 children".

Because he needs to have that label follow him for the rest of his days.

This is devastating. There's so much pain here, and so many places this family has been failed. This is a conversation that's bigger and more important than hot takes on Twitter.

Father's Day.

This makes me sick. That couple have been through hell and we’re still going through it missing their three little ones and her Dad. Tased? What physician saw him and made the decision he was fit to go home. Poor Jen….so much heartaches and grief and now even more.

Wow, I didn't even think of this being a possible smear piece until I read the comments - if anything, I felt even more sympathy for him. Just reading the headline made my heart ache for the guy even more. After everything he's been through, to suffer through the awfulness that must be Father's Day for him now, and then to find himself in trouble with the law in the midst of all of that? Just... my God. That poor man.

Quick question...why aren't drunk drivers who kill people held to the same liability as ones who pick up a gun or stab people are?

Stop victimizing this family over and over again. They have been through enough. If you want to drag someone through the mud the Muzzo family would be a good place to start.

I hate the way The Star seems to manipulate opinion on certain local issues instead of just reporting or analyzing them. I can only imagine what (or who) is behind this article but it does go to show the torment and agony this crime can cause to those left behind and how functionally deficient our mental health services are. In a truly functional society bells and alarms would have been triggered all over the place on that day before call and he would have received proper care, and probably still be alive.

I would suggest that if the Muzzo family wants to do something less self serving with their money then they fund some kind of truly world class outpatient mental health unit to treat the survivors of tragedies like this. That would at least show some appreciation and understanding of what they are responsible for.

(and for the record - the whole family is indeed responsible for what the son did. They raised him and instilled their values in him. They taught him how to behave and live and how to respect others. The let his little indiscretions slide and they created the man he became. So for all those who say the sins of the son should bot be ascribed to the father - Bulls$%#!. This is on them as much as on him. Own up to it.)

I suspect the only relevance of this news is it reaffirms that, after Muzzo took his family, Edward Lake continued in, and ultimately failed to return from, a darkness he could not shake. How could he? He died the day Muzzo slaughtered his kids.

Edward Lake's statement at Muzzo's parole hearing 2021:

“It makes me want to cry and cry … Without my children. I feel like an empty shell.”

RIP.

Maybe the Star needs to learn that not everything needs to be everyone's business? Hasn't this woman been through enough than to drag this stuff out? Sounds like maybe he was having a mental crises. And without more info, this story only leads to speculation.

I hope Marco Muzzo never has a day of rest for the remainder of his life. The repercussions and devastating ripple effect of his selfish decision to drive drunk, thus decimating an entire family, should weigh heavily on him ad infinitum. I doubt he gives them a second thought https://t.co/WgOJW0rhsv

I don’t think this is Muzzo public relations - I think reporters caught wind of the chain of events here, asked Peel Police about it and this is them attempting to get ahead of any public criticism over their response and handling of the situation. Everything about how this article is written seems like Peel Police sent out a PR email to media contacts who were asking about how/why the police responded as they did: https://beta.ctvnews.ca/local/toronto/2022/6/22/1_5959174.amp.html

“Peel police said they had previously attended Lake's home but could not share the details due to privacy reasons.

"We are aware of and saddened by Mr. Lake's tragic death, as well as the tragic circumstances that this family has faced," Cannon said.

"While there was no indication that the call was directly related to mental health, the Officers who attended were appropriately made aware of Mr. Lake's history and previous interactions," she added, noting that due to the nature of the call, the Crisis Outreach and Support Team or the Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team did not respond to it.”

Police alternatives now. We should dismantle the police bit by bit. Traffic wardens instead of cops, paramedics for drug issues instead of cops, social workers for domestic disputes instead of cops.

to the authorities folks with mental health are just a number. I say this with pain as I have experienced suicide loss . A proper assessment is needed at such calls. How unfortunate that such harsh measures were inflicted on someone already in so much pain 😓

Not that anyone could ever "get over" the loss that this guy felt, but it sounds like for whatever reason he and his wife kept re-living it fresh over and over. Eventually if you keep picking a scab it will never heal at all.

That said I'm not sure ANY amount of therapy could have made a difference. The loss was too great for this poor man.
