Hosts, guests scrambling after hundreds of Airbnb bookings cancelled in Toronto

Dozens of Toronto Airbnb hosts and hundreds of guests were left scrambling after all their bookings were abruptly cancelled by Airbnb following a city audit. It turns out the problem was minor discrepancies in how their address is listed on their City of Toronto registration versus their Airbnb...

Since AirBnB is basically a cancer on the housing market, this dude with his 50 listings is like a malignant tumour.
I fear this won’t be enough to kill the tumour unfortunately. One can hope

"That led to the city flagging registered hosts after it ran a short-term rental compliance audit. The city sent the profiles to Airbnb, and instead of contacting the hosts to address the clerical error, the company automatically cancelled all their bookings."
This is on purpose. They'll use examples like this to say how city licensing causes so many problems.

Decades of plugging safety and quality assurance holes for consumers in order to ensure they get a basic level of service and protection from the hospitality industry. Tech firm comes along and says - eww, regulations, we don't like them, here's how we get around them. Beginning decades more of plugging safety and quality assurance holes for consumers...
Repeat for the taxi industry and Uber.

"Someone from Airbnb needs to get on the phone with someone from Toronto short-term rentals and just figure it out."
Toronto doesn't have to figure shit out, airbnb is the one with the system problem.
A message from Airbnb to Wall on Tuesday says the company can't change his address on his profile and suggests Wall contact Toronto's short-term rental office instead.
That's an airbnb and host issue not a Toronto one.

This is excellent. I hope all the rebooks are cancelled as well.

Boo fucking hoo, fuck airbnb.
had to drop everything and spend hours trying to rebook the reservations

I thought this type of superhost thing is now illegal in Toronto and you can only Airbnb a room in your home part of the year.
These types of super hosts are a significant part of why we have a housing crisis and people’s long term rents are so high.

Rinse the fucker. I stayed in an Airbnb once hosted by a guy who obviously chopped up a few apartments into at least double the units and was renting them out as single rooms, didn't even have climate control

I’m shedding a single tear and playing my tiniest violin.

too bad this is only a temporary disruption.
i was dancing in the streets when i read about these cancerous fucks losing money (albeit only for a little while)
