A Toronto lawyer is calling on the mayor’s office to diffuse police presence in High Park after a cyclist was hit by a police cruiser while riding in the bike lane Tuesday evening

What happens in these situations? Do they sue the cops?

Move on folks, and whatever you do - don't look up that sergeant's salary

Btw this Sargeant is making more per year than the Mayor or Premier....yet they have buddy ticketing cyclists in the park.

Remember this when it's voting time in the fall.

No charges for a cop hitting a cyclist with a cop car? But cyclists getting ticketed for rolling stops? How about applying the law equally?
Oh wait, Rules for thee, but not for me should be the TPS new motto. I mean in the ~ last month
- Bike cops continue wearing racist anti-Black flag on their official uniform This in spite they were told not to over a year ago.
- [Investigation finds ~ 100 cases where TPS violate charter of rights. TPS say they're gonna "investigate" themselves] (https://www.thestar.com/news/investigations/2022/06/13/toronto-police-reviewing-officers-conduct-in-nearly-100-cases.html)
Some user in the thread yesterday said it best: Cops ticketing cyclists in High Park is all just a dog-and-pony show to look busy.
Meanwhile, motorists are still blasting down Parkside drive like they're already on the Gardener.

I think TPS just likes hanging out at the park… the rest is just gravy

According to publicly available Toronto police data, between 2006 and 2020, there have been 16 incidents of cyclists striking pedestrians in which a serious or fatal injury was reported. None of those incidents were in High Park.
This is what kills me: 16 incidents in 14 years yet in the same period, an average of 179 pedestrians annually were injured or killed by vehicles. That's one every two days on average.
All logic has gone out the window.

We need less cars in High Park. TPS proved that yesterday.

That cop single handedly caused more danger in high park than all the cyclists combined.
Police should need to continually prove that their interventions don’t cause more harm than the problem they are trying to solve.
Close high park to cars, cultivate a safe cycling community, get rid of the police unless they can prove they’re actually doing something useful.

I'll just throw this out here too while we are at it.....

Oh - now John Tory can’t say anything about TPS operations and conduct. And just last week he was standing behind their blitzes in High Park.

I don't know if this is a good idea. If people stop focusing on the dangers of bicycles, they might want action on housing or health care.

Hey TPS, we could maybe use you guys in other parts of the city sometime for real police work if you got a sec.

R/Toronto cyclists and pedestrians have finally united - over a mutual hatred of cops

So instead of patrolling the streets and preventing crime and increasing car jacking, out brave police officers are targeting cyclists? Are you frickin kidding me. But then we elected a Con mayor and premier so what do you expect? Ontario, enjoy what you showed.

then within 12 months there will be another bunch of people who get flashed or sexually assaulted in the park and then there will be a call for more police presence in High Park

The officer has investigated himself and cleared himself of any wrongdoing.
