Woman in her 20s stabbed multiple times on TTC streetcar, female suspect arrested

Toronto police say it is unclear if the victim and suspect knew each other in the attack on the busy Spadina streetcar, the latest violent incident on the city’s transit system

This was posted 3 hours ago but all comments start 6 minutes ago. So, it tooks the mods 3 hours to "approve" it under their new "curated crime collection" rule. I know for a fact other posts were made about this. So, the mods are choosing to approve only 1 post if many are made, hoping to keep the volume low.

We definitely can't let irrelevant crap like stabbings crowd out important memes like "Does anyone else still call it Skydome?"

Anyone who makes decisions about public services should be mandated to use those services at least once a month. Stick em on the TTC or in an emerg waiting room. Have them find an open park bathroom or usable garbage can. Etc, etc.

Something something mods.

Now with that out of the way... WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO?

The city won't do anything, the TTC victim-blames its own riders, the police show up after the fact.. What do we do? Especially us women, seeing as most of these attacks on the TTC have been directed at us. Are we supposed to now sit in groups to feel safer?

Mods should be ashamed of themselves.

As another user in the stickied thread pointed out, you are users just like us- censoring content is disgusting and should not be tolerated.

Took the mods 4 hours to actually approve this - anyone who was lurking here today knows that many, MANY posts were removed and a handful of threads (including one of my own that was very quickly rising) discussing why we couldn’t discuss the matter were also removed.

Clearly this has been approved because the mods saw just how upset people here were getting.

Absolutely horrible moderation. Mod team here needs to step down, full stop.

So we have someone who stabbed a girl in the face and is getting off with just aggravated assault.

Nothing is being done, no action plans are in place.

TTC responded with a limp and stoic bullshit statement.

A girl was just murdered last month, same situation.

So........we just sit? TTC takes no action - just blames the social system.

In the US after a mass shooting in the schools....their action plan is to....re-open the schools?

If you comment - leave your idea - along with a plan on how to execute your idea - on how we can better our city and the TTC.

IF WE DON'T DO THINGS OURSELVES AS CITIZENS THINGS WILL NEVER GET DONE.

Great job mods! I really hope you’re proud of your ridiculous attempt at censorship.

Edit: but seriously, do you actually live in the same reality as the rest of us?

Edit: hah a comment was removed by moderator. What a snowflake.

Why do I feel like something will only be done only once a mass casualty event occurs and I fear that’s what’s coming next

Its time for all women to keep their eyes OPEN during ALL rides on the TTC. Like no looking at our phones, reading, looking out the window, etc. We have to be completely aware while riding. This happened in broad daylight on one of the busiest SCs in the entire city. No where is safe. Dont think this shit will never happen to you.

I've about had it with people telling me that these TTC attacks are the result of much needed mental health funding/homeless crisis and so on.

It's not that I don't agree but one is a long term issue that needs long term solutions and the other is a symptom that still needs to be addressed.

I've been told on this subreddit multiple times by people who put the needs of junkies and the mentally ill above everyone they affect that I need to share public spaces with them even though they make it worse for everyone.

  1. Holy shit poor woman, we absolutely must not fall into "fund the police even more" and instead we need to realize that there are so many cracks that people fall through that they end up deranged enough to actually kill others. Bring back institutionalization.
  2. These mods need to be spat on for doing what they're doing. Just come out, apologize, say you fucked up, revert back to normal and let the community decide what we want on our front page via upvotes/downvotes.

When can we begin protesting? I know it’s a nuanced problem, but the citizens of this city have a right to safety. All of us do.

Article says more than a dozen police and TTC vehicles on scene. From what I could see from pictures etc, there was a LOT of cops.

And this bothers me because I've seen this happen before. An altercation on my street this summer had 5 vehicles, and 4 bike cops show up. They didn't collect evidence and the guy was in handcuffs when there was only 2 cars on scene. One cop talked to some witnesses.

I understand that they respond en masse for safety, but it took over half an hour after the car drove off with the guy arrested in the back, while the cops just stood around talking. Maybe some had a break, but there was 7 or 8 cops just standing around.

If this kind of thing happens with every call, it explains why there never is any cops available.

It was so easy for the police to catch the perp since it’s the only crime that has been committed in January…

Fuck this fucking stupid ass country's draconian self defense laws.

There is no reason that your average citizen should have any fear of being persecuted by the police, justice system, and powers that be for defending themselves, their lives, the lives of those that they love, and doing it by whatever means are necessary.

There is no reason that your average citizen, in such a situation, should have any reason to have to hesitate or attempt to judge what a "proportional level of force" looks like, when they're under attack and their life, safety, or livelihood could be in danger.

There is no reason that your average citizen should not be permitted to carry items for the express purpose of defending themselves in public, including but not limited to pepper spray.

As Canadians we need to get off our fucking holier-than-thou high horse and recognize that our laws inhibit our ability, as productive and law-abiding members of society, to exist safely in public and defend ourselves if threatened or attacked without being persecuted by the same justice system whose otherwise lax attitude towards crime permits this problem to fester in the first place.

Canada's laws around self-defense have needed a huge overhaul for years and my only hope is that horrible tragedies like those that are occurring on the TTC almost weekly now may finally turn the tide of public opinion.

My heart goes out to the woman who was stabbed today. She was a productive, law-abiding member of society like the rest of us, just trying to use the TTC like we all do. She didn't deserve for her life to be potentially ended, if not undergo grievous bodily harm, just because our city allows ranting, raving insane manics to roam the streets unchecked and our federal government forbids us from confidently defending ourselves or using any tool to do so.

God bless her and I hope she pulls through.

One of my best friends lives downtown, and is a short/petite woman.

She has begun to text me after everyone one of these stabbings to let me know she’s still alive.

It shouldn’t be like this.

Love that the TTC just spent all that money on primetime tv ads. Kia Nurse told me it's the best way to get around T.O.!!
