The judge believed the defence's position that Torbati was suffering from PTSD, and seeing the women he struck reminded him of the death of his father in a car crash in Iran at the age of 13.

what???

That is awful. He was publicly identified by the police after he fled the scene; when he eventually turned himself in (after he had sobered up?), he hid the car from the police. He sounds like a well-known scammer in Ottawa known for his lambo. Nice car for a 25 year old. He definitely had the money for a very good legal team. The poor family, I hope they sue him.

This is the outcome when you get a good lawyer. Shame for the family of the woman killed.

How do judges sleep at night dropping these verdicts?

Failed to remain where you hit a pedestrian because of PTSD? hid your vehicle afterwards? sure, not guilty. Killed a pedestrian because you were reaching for a bottle of water that fell on the floor? sure, not guilty.

How can someone have their head so far up their ass to think this is right and just?

Canada, where the sentences are light and the laws don't matter.
