Toronto councillor, doctor say city must stop using police to clear homeless encampments
A Toronto city councillor and a high-profile doctor are speaking out against forced evictions of homeless encampments, following the clearing of unhoused people out of Lamport Stadium park on Wednesday.
The best way to prevent crime is by reducing poverty.

No. Citizens can't make their homes in public parks to the exclusion of others. They were breaking the law. The police were executing a lawful order. And they were offered hotel rooms!
Maybe the $500M that @JustinTrudeau was going to give his buddies at the "WE Charity" could be used to help solve this problem? 🤷🏾♀️
Just keep beating on the desperately poor. Maybe start treating the wealthy " NON" taxpayers the same way for tax evaision.
Well why did you vote to change dundas? Wate of money. Spend it to get these people a place to live!
If they are more comfortable outside and I can understand that what can’t the city dedicate a green space somewhere in the city for them.
Why did we throw away what little possessions they had? There is more than enough waste to organize to “move” their belongings rather than trash them.
From what little I saw, the police were responding to resistance from the protesters. If people would obey lawful orders we wouldn’t have violence. Doesn’t mean we have to be sheep but there’s a big difference between peaceful protests and physical resistance.
They are wrong. Police should have kicked them out the day they set up their tents. Parks are not campsites. They are welcome to offer up their own backyards if they feel very strongly about this issue.
Parks are for everyone not for living in … they were over run by people doing drugs and making a place others couldn’t go .. and that’s fair? Their supporters should use their money where their mouth is .. put them up in your house or backyard not in the park
