Or just hire new ones. I’d drive a bus for 100k a year.

They sitting on over 250,000 applications from what my cousin tells me,he's a supervisor for TTC.These are the one that been accepted for interviews for HR.Its about a 6 month process from interview to being on the road.

Maybe make the application process less ridiculous? I applied and it worked like this:

  • send in application

  • attend a day-long event where you do an aptitude test

  • wait to call a number to be told if you passed the test and move on to the next stage

  • next stage was to go and interview at least four operators while they are driving; you had to do the Yonge night bus and Queen night car on a Friday or Saturday night.

  • go for interview where you present your interview notes and answer about 20 questions.

  • if you pass the interview, you get a start date for training.

This whole process is over three months long. I have been told it’s to ensure that only people who are truly committed are applying, since you’d have to be to jump so many hoops.

I have wanted to be an operator ever since I was little, but even I found this process needlessly arduous.

Hold a job fair. Lots of people out there would take this job because of the benefits and pension alone.

Crazy to me that people are willing to leave their union job, seniority, etc. because they are unwilling to get a vaccine. I hope they wake up in a cold sweat of regret in 2-3 years. No sympathy here.

lol what the fuck just hire more people. Tons of people would step into those absurdly high-paying roles where minimal skills are required.

They should just hire the younger generations to drive instead of trying to get the retired people back on.

Vaccine is safe and effective. TTC is hiring new staff all the time. Everyone calm down. This is just management tryin to cause strife between public and front line staff to justify service cuts.

Maybe people don't want an untested vaccine with potentially severe side effects, (that doesn't even really work) to battle a virus with a 99.975% survival rate? Where is the union!?

Scrap the mandatory vaxx and you won't have employment issues.

LOL...as if they'd come back during a pandemic.

Remember that call for retired nurses? Yeah, well a friend of the family went back at 71 to help the cause and caught covid and died within 8 months of returning. I think that the union will be demanding a danger pay for anyone who returns.

Please don't. So much road rage with the older generation.

To be completely honest.

Hasn't TTC use been reduced dramatically due to the pandemic?

You'd think they could restructure frequency of service instead?

I see empty busses and streetcars all the time.

😂 Don't you just love overcrowded buses and trains with lots of unvaxxed riders.

Oh wait. Maybe our tyrants will ban unvaxxed riders from using Public transit next

What if a lot of the retired workers aren’t vaccinated either. Hire new people that actually want to learn and are vaccinated instead of bringing back older workers who genuinely would be miserable having to come back.

Replacing unvaxxed with unvaxxed. Just like nurses replaced with unvaxxed military. The people know. It’s neither safe nor effective. This is tyranny, not public health.

Only idiots fire qualified and experienced staff and then complain about a labour shortage

Only arrogant idiots applaud you for doing so

The pandemic literally come full circle. The population took the shots to give the boomers a few more years of life and now the boomers are having their careers returned to them by the unvaccinated. Hahaha... I love it.

In Ottawa they are talking “up to 20%” of drivers unvaxxed. With 90% of eligible already vaccinated in Ottawa, I’ve got to wonder, what is it about operators that has them at double the unvaxxed rate of the general population?

I know a lot of skilled people that could easily take over one of these roles. They haven’t hired anybody new as far as I know.

How have ppl become so cruel that they don’t care about others losing their jobs and unable to afford food for their families. How despicable.

My father in law was a TTC driver turned supervisor. He said most of the employees 50+ years or older have a high school education at most. How these non-vaxed employees think they'll find another job that has them hovering near or above the Sunshine List is beyond me. These people are nuts.

They should be looking at the policy. It's against the law.

Why would they come out of retirement to support the tyranny?

Never mind considering they are. I retired from Wheel Trans in May of this year and moved to NS. On the drive back to Ontario this past Saturday an assistant manager from Wheel Trans called me to ask me if I wanted to come back. Bugger of a commute.

bringing higher risk people into work to fill the gaps brought on by people who prob already have natural immunity to the virus. Not to mention vaccinated workers can spread the virus the same as unvaccinated. The world has gone mad.
