Sweden's first female prime minister quits hours later

Hours after being tapped as Sweden's prime minister, Magdalena Andersson resigned Wednesday after suffering a budget defeat in parliament and its coalition partner left the two-party minority government.

“Under the Swedish Constitution, prime ministers can be named and govern as long as a parliamentary majority - a minimum of 175 lawmakers - is not against them.” She had 174 against her. She resigned as she knew she wouldn’t be able to pass any legislation. Simple as that
